Application examples of XHydro

Currently in a German gauging station the conventional instruments for the official measurements is supplemented by an additional sensor and a data logger that transmits the data by means of Web Service. The water-level measurements in 15-minute intervals are transmitted in near-real-time by means of Web Services to a powerful server.

The purpose of this setup is to collect operational experience with the Web Services technology and to provide an example to those interested in such applications.

In the gauging station Mainz the system iLON100 made by "echelon" is used as data logger. This is a microcontroller-based device that is providing the data directly "out of the box" by means of Web Services. It uses a radar filling-level sensor which transmits the measured data digitally (via Modbus) to the data logger.

At the addresses www.xhydro-test.de or www.xhydro-test.de/ObservationService a powerful server can be contacted that makes the data of both gauging stations accessible via broadband Internet.

In the column Downloads you find some examples of client applications for data polling. For instance, you can call data from an Excel worksheet at the touch of a button and have them displayed as a hydrograph.
